Love is patient and kind. ***** I am the grandparent of twins and triplets. The twins were born in February, and the triplets were born in October of the same year. From October until the following February, I had five grandchildren the same age. And I am in love with all five of them!!!   The twins are two girls - one blonde with blue eyes and one brunette with brown eyes. (Definitely not identical) The triplets are one boy and two girls. No one is identical. I was a professor in Connecticut when the twins came. When spring break came, I flew to Texas. I was truly blessed when I held these two precious girls - one...

 TEDx Thoughts I'm a happy woman!!  I've been called a "Pollyanna" - I tend to see the beauty in life.  I talk of how LOVE WINS, but I also have seen hate, greed, lust, and evil win too.   I'd love to talk at your TEDx event!!!

TEDx - third post I taught high school math for seven years.  I assumed it would be my career - get up, get dressed, teach algebra and geometry, come home, and repeat for 40 years.   But financially, we were hurting.  Our first child came about 18 months into our marriage, and my wife stopped working and became a full-time Mom.  We bought a house (aside from the price being $10,000), and I didn't know how we would pay for it!!. I didn't make enough as a teacher—even though I had a master's degree.  We needed a twelve-month income.  In education, the way to get there was to become an administrator.  So, I started on an educational specialist degree.  I took school law and a student services course.  I was on my way.   I opened my college placement file and started looking at administrative jobs (even though I wasn't there yet).  Maybe I could be an assistant principal at a small school and work my way up to the upper admini...

  THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2024 - CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE I have this gag t-shirt - “Texas, Center of the Universe.” And that message is totally right (and totally wrong). Why is Texas the center of the universe? Consider a circle. A circle has a center. From that center, it is an equal distance to the line of the circle (we’d call that a “radius” - or radii (plural)). From Texas to the farthest reaches of the universe is an equal distance!! (Really?) It is an infinite number of lightyears to any of the “edges” of the universe. Going north - it is an endless number of lightyears to the edge of the universe; going south - - it is also an infinite number of lightyears to the edge of the universe. Thus, Texas is the center of the universe!!! (WOW). (And, native Texans “believe” that they are in the center of the universe). ***** That t-shirt message is also totally wrong (at least to me). TEDx - WHO IS KAREN WHITE SEPTEMBER 10, 2024 That is a good question!!  I haven't always been Karen White - now "Karen White" for five years.   I was a college professor for thirty-eight years.  I've lived in Iowa (my birthplace), Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, South Dakota, Oregon, and Connecticut, and now I'm in Georgetown,  Texas (just outside of Austin). I loved my teaching and my students, but I was (as I say) "smacked" by a two-by-four when I discovered I was judgmental and egotistical.   ***** I  play in a community Orchestra; I play in a German Umpha Band for Oktoberfest; I have played Granny Basketball (and now I'm the team's scorekeeper - I like my knees and hips and don't want to fall).  I play social bridge (I am friendlier, and we laugh and are serious).  I volunteer at a nursing home where I feed a 97-year-old lady dinner five nights a week.  (She doesn't talk anymore but is a sweet older lady).
